A New Way to Find Dubai’s Local Restaurants and Hidden Food Spots
Some of Dubai’s most interesting food experiences are not inside famous hotels
Visitors often know Dubai for luxury restaurants and international dining brands.
But the city also has a large number of smaller cafés, neighbourhood restaurants and locally developed food businesses.
A new initiative called Map Your Dubai: Insider Edition is helping people discover more of them.
The project brings together recommendations from Google Maps Local Guides, with curated lists covering local dining experiences around Dubai. The official initiative includes more than 100 homegrown restaurants, cafés and neighbourhood concepts.
Why this can be useful for tourists
Food can be one of the easiest ways to explore a different side of Dubai.
Instead of visiting only major tourist districts, travellers can use local recommendations to discover:
- neighbourhood cafés;
- specialist restaurants;
- regional cuisines;
- affordable local favourites;
- food areas outside the main hotel zones.
Dubai’s population includes people from many parts of the world, and that diversity is strongly reflected in its food scene.
Use recommendations as a starting point
Before travelling to a restaurant, visitors should still check:
- current opening times;
- location;
- recent reviews;
- reservation requirements;
- whether the menu suits their dietary needs.
The initiative can be a useful tool for travellers who want to go beyond the most obvious dining choices and experience more of the city’s everyday food culture.
